“I warmly welcome most of the Bill as described in the decentralisation and localism guidance issued today by Rt Hon Nick Clegg.
The six essential actions are ones that in many cases Lib Dems have fought for over many years. This Bill when it becomes an act will enable us to:
- Involve people more closely in the workings of their communities
- Diversify the way services are provided
- Roll back the interference of government in local and community matters
- Reduce the amount of bureaucracy and form filling that has bedeviled us for 40 years.
There is a lot of detail here that we will need to discuss urgently with the Government but I will do so positively and with the clear desire to help improve what I believe to be, for the most part, a very clear and welcome direction of travel
For Liberal Democrats this is community politics in action”
